About Informal Family Service

The Informal Family Service is a “come-as-you-are”, all-ages worship service where worship is approached as an extension of everyday life and where everyone in the community is invited to participate in all aspects of the service.

Timing

Informal Family Service begins at 10:15 a.m. The service starts with about ten minutes of opening songs, followed by opening prayers, an interactive talk, and a few more songs, wrapping up between 10:50 and 11:00. Afterwards, there is fellowship with refreshments in the lobby, followed by the opportunity to join a minister-led discussion in the assembly hall or to continue visiting in the lobby.

Location

As of February 1st, 2025, the Informal Family Service happens in the Asplundh Assembly Hall in the Bryn Athyn Church School and Church Offices building at 600 Tomlinson Rd., Bryn Athyn, PA.

Music

This service features Contemporary Christian music led by a varying team of musicians often including guitar, piano, and bass. On a given Sunday, most or all of the music is sing-along. Get in touch with Graham Bier (graham.bier@brynathynchurch.org) if you'd like to get involved.

How to Get Involved

There are a bunch of different ways that you can help support the Informal Family Service: participating in the weekly planning meeting on Zoom, helping on Sunday (greeting, refreshments, set up or clean up, acting, music, etc.), or contributing financially. Please contact Informal Family Service facilitator Anne Grace Glenn (anne.grace.glenn@brynathynchurch.org) or coordinating pastor Coleman Glenn (coleman.glenn@brynathynchurch.org) to discuss how you'd like to get involved.

Planning Meetings

Our weekly planning meetings are held every Monday afternoon at 3 pm on Zoom. In these meetings, you would have a chance to help the minister prepare for the Sunday service by discussing the Biblical story and the doctrine, and then brainstorming examples, stories, applications, and relevant music choices, as well as discussing ways to reach all age groups, and planning for the activity or process.
