Using a PowerPoint presentation that complements the creation of a sand mandala, Rev. Barry Halterman will elaborate on his talk from September 2007, The Universe in a Grain of Sand: A New Church Perspective on Tibetan Buddhism and the Sacred Art of the Sand Mandala.
He will explore connections between Buddhism and the New Church and the importance of studying world religions. There are key teachings from these religions that connect in ways that can deepen our understanding of both. He will also examine the origins and unique aspects of Tibetan Buddhism, and the purpose, symbolism and ritualistic elements of the sand mandala. The Venerable Losang Samten will be creating a sand mandala at Glencairn Museum from Thursday, April 22nd, to Sunday, April 25th. Be sure to visit to look for these connections yourself.
