MusicSing to the Lord a new song... for musical sounds express them with joy..."(Apocalypse Explained 1185) |
Music accompanies and graces the Sunday worship services and many other special services and activities within the Bryn Athyn Cathedral and Church congregation.
During the Sunday worship services at the Bryn Athyn Cathedral one can expect to hear traditional classical or sacred music, but more informal worship or special services often use more contemporary music. To learn more about the musical styles of our various services, please see our Worship Services section of the website.
For those interested in participating in musical groups such as choirs or instrumental groups there are a number of groups available for participation. Please visit the Music page of our Ministries section of our website to learn more about participating with the various groups associated with the music specialities listed below:
- Organs - we are blessed with both an Allen Quantum Q410 organ (installed June 2011) and a Schlicker tracker-action pipe organ (installed 1974). We are looking forward to a special Allen Organ Dedication Service on Sunday, October 16th, 2011 featuring organists Terry Schnarr, Kenneth Coy, Rudy Lucente, Betsy Walsh and Leah Martin. The Bryn Athyn Cathedral Choir will also participate. Preludes begin at 7:00 PM; Service at 8:00 PM. Freewill offering.
- Choirs - one of the opportunities to participate in worship is through involvement in the choirs that provide special music for the services. There are five types of choirs that sing for a variety of worship services under the direction of Christopher Simons.
- Instrumental - as well as vocal music, the worship services and pageants provide many opportunities for instrumental groups and solo instruments. Students and adults who play at a professional or semi-professional level are welcome additions to our services.
